This course teaches students the basic knowledge, skills, and attitude necessary for the safe handling of a shotgun in shooting a moving target.

This two-day, 10-hour course for classroom and range time learning to shoot shotguns at moving targets. Students learn NRA’s rules for safe gun handling; shotgun parts and operation; shotgun shell components; shotgun shell malfunctions, shooting fundamentals; range rules; shooting at straight away and angled targets, cleaning, and continued opportunities for skill development.

Students will receive the Basics of Shotgun Shooting handbook, NRA Gun Safety Rules brochure, Winchester/NRA Marksmanship Qualification booklet, take a Basics of Rifle Shooting Student Examination, and receive a course completion certificate.

Course Details: NRA Basic Rifle Course

  • Participants will learn NRA's rules for safe gun handling.
  • Participants will become familiar with shotgun operation and components.
  • Participants will become familiar with shotgun shell components.
  • Participants will learn shooting fundamentals and range rules.
  • Participants will shoot at straight away and angled targets.
  • 10 total hours of classroom / range instruction is provided.

You will need

  • Ear and Eye Protection
  • 25 rounds of ammunition
  • Your shotgun
  • Pen and notebook for taking notes.
  • Sun Screen (we'll be in the sun for hours.)
  • A comfy lawn chair
  • Water and snacks. (There will be lunch breaks)
